Article Abstract:

The design of camera lenses can directly affect the quality of the photograph and presented are evaluations of two lenses. The first is Nikon's 80-200mm AF Nikkor, priced at $224 and weighs 11 3/4 oz. The second is Sigma's 50mm AF Macro SIGMA EX which weighs 11 3/16 oz and is priced at $236. The results of field tests performed on both products are noted as well as their additional features.

Twenty-seven of thirty-three Nikon N8008 and N8008 owners gave their cameras an excellent rating. Only five thought they were good and one, fair. The most popular features were the metering, film loading, viewing and construction. Most owners bought a zoom lens with the camera.

The Nikon 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 lens, priced at $480, shows above-average results and flare is controlled. Scales are well-marked and the autofocus is quick but 'noisy.' There is some barrel distortion at the 28mm focal length.
