NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Article Abstract:
Acclaim Entertainment's $54.95 NBA Jam Tournament Edition CD ROM for DOS and Windows 95 sports simulation game looks very fresh on the screen but lacks the season's current trades, expansion teams and rookies. Overall, the game delivers the core elements of the game to the PC without any sense of lost excitement or speed. The 120 available NBA players look extremely realistic. Option menus let users choose between speeds and difficulties and other hot spots, powerups and juice modes, including one that lowers the opponent's playing abilities. The full arcade experience is possible with a decent game pad and rather quick computer. The 2-on-2 playing is quick, easy-to-control, smoothly animated and enhanced with great sound effects. The only real drawback to the game is its limited three-quarters of the court view, which inhibits the defense's transition.

You Don't Know Jack
Article Abstract:
Berkeley Systems' $30 You Don't Know Jack pop-culture trivia game is clever and fast-paced, but is best suited for group playing. The game uses a quiz-show format that features multiple-choice puzzlers. Players select from humorously named categories, such as "I Wouldn't Kiss A Dog With That Mouth." Similar to Jeopardy, players that answer correctly get cash, and players that answer incorrectly not only lose their cash, but have to endure insults and in-jokes. The game is spiced up with trick questions and a Screw Your Neighbor option that forces another player to answer a too-tough question. Quick tournaments are available via a short seven-question version. You Don't Know Jack is great entertainment for a party setting.
