Nubia is an ancient and prehistoric civilization that began in the Nile and hugged the southern part of Egypt. Nubian civilization has been foreshadowed by Egyptian civilization, but artifacts mined here rival those of ancient Egyptians in terms of grace, beauty and simplicity.

Revolutions in stone

Lapidary Tom Finneran has achieved acclaim for his lathe-turned stone and stone-and-glass sculpture. He learned gem cutting as an apprentice to jeweller Lew Wackler, but his art also shows the influence of his childhood love of glass art.
