Road trip!
Article Abstract:
The US has a large number of mineral collecting areas which enthusiasts can visit. Some of these destinations are well-known while others are shared as a secret by a few individuals. Rough directions on how to reach four different collecting stations in Nevada, Pennsylvania, Colorado and South Dakota are presented.

A last-minute change of plans finds mineral hobbyists hunting for opals at the Woodward Ranch. They unearthed some samples of seam and matrix opals and their findings were proudly displayed during the Third Annual Alpine Gem and Mineral Show in Alpine, Texas.

What on earth!

The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia is holding an exhibit called 'What on Earth' to help visitors learn more about the earth. Included are 26,000 mineral samples on display at the 'Treasures of the Earth' section.
