The early-19th century European fad of decorating collectible dolls with tiny seashells was a natural result of the widespread fashion of using shells in interior and architectural dcoration, and doll collecting.

Small dolls numbering up to 85 and possibly more complete the miniature rooms and houses as family members that children can talk to as they play. The small doll families include outdoor staff, pets and horses.
