Better living through plant chemistry
Article Abstract:
Some insects have developed a natural defense against predators by ingesting poisonous plants and storing the toxins in their bodies. Insects gather toxins from a variety of sources, including milkweed, willow, foxglove, mustard, tomatoes, pine and eucalyptus trees, fungi and cabbages. These poisons offer predators a repugnant smell, a bitter taste, or a lethal dose.
