Biedermeier picture clocks
Article Abstract:
Biedermeier style home decors in the early 19th century often featured the combination of fine art and quality timepieces known as Bilderuhren, or picture clocks. A clock was set in the frame or in the painting itself. Subjects and workmanship are discussed.

Weimar porcelain

The Museum of the German Porcelain Industry recently held an exhibit of over 400 pieces from the affluent 1920s, one of the high points of the art. Popular items were dance, sports, animal and fashion figures, pottery and gift items.

Swiss automata developed from the technical expertise of the country's watchmakers. It took the form of figures, pocket watches, snuff boxes, and scent bottles. The Jaquet-Droz workshops made many outstanding examples.
