Human values: issues for home economics

Article Abstract:

The home economics profession must integrate positive human values into their discipline to prevent the increasing negative influences of society. Home economists do not deal with mere consumers or markets but with families which serve as the core of society. Critical science must be the preferred method for research in the profession. Moreover, adoptionof human values would make the public realize that the home economics profession is concerned with profound aspects of the family and the community.

Freshman orientation and home economics

Article Abstract:

A survey of home economics orientation courses has shown that there is relative uniformity in course content and description and that lectures are the most commonly used instructional strategy. These courses, though similar to university freshman orientation courses, are oriented more toward the profession of home economics. Greater emphasis needs to be placed on college survival skills, experimental learning techniques and caring mentorship by instructors.
