Telepathy, the elephant man, monstration
Article Abstract:
Joe Merrick, known for being the elephant man in circus shows in the 1880s, consented to his monstrous exposure and his becoming a subject in a medical study. Merrick's life story was depicted in theater and in film. What could have been an interesting subject in medical research also turned out to be a subject of interest in monstration. Essentially, Merrick was exploited and he consented to such abuse.
