Lounge act: A '60s split-level rediscovers its groove

Sean and Melinda Winterhalter updated their newly open kitchen in their 1962 four-bedroom home in Richmond, Virginia with bamboo-fronted cabinets and stainless steel appliances is illustrated, while a palette of golds, coppers and oranges links it to the adjoining living dining area recalling the 60's decor. The guests can lounge on low-slung seating while socializing with the cook, and the home's sunken entry foyer is visible through original wooden latticework, coated with glossy paint.
