Make way for Mahonias
Article Abstract:
The genus of evergreen shrubs known as Mahonia, named after the 19th -century American horticulturist Bernard McMahon offers a surfeit of species and hybrids that lend handsome textural foliage, off-season flowers, and colorful crops of fruit for year-round interest in the American garden. Mahonias have few pest and disease problems and respond to any soil with good drainage if provided even moisture until fully established and therefore can be easily grown and maintained.

Magnificent mahonias
Article Abstract:
All species of mahonias exhibit handsome, leathery, pinnately compound, holly-like leaves, fragrant yellow flowers that bloom early. With a few exceptions, mahonias can tolerate a wide range of soils, climates, exposures, and conditions and as they sprout from old wood and are fast growing, even old specimens rejuvenate easily.
