Mary Giles: Natural expressions
Article Abstract:
The work of Mary Giles fits comfortably into contemporary American Basketry, a genre loosely defined as encompassing sculptural forms that may incidentally, be vessels. She focused on coiling with waxed linen, and for a short time her baskets were reminiscent of intensely colored sea creatures sprouting intertwining tentacles.

Starkey likes to create nesting baskets, a set of baskets which fit into each other. She is challenged the most by the Nantucket Lightship basket form. Examples of her work are illustrated.
