Nolen incorporates social and political issues into the designs of his porcelain pieces. One vessel covered with credit card representations is highlighted with a high interest rate figure and the phrase 'credit est mort.' Examples of his work are illustrated.

Brooklyn, NY-based potter John Brekke creates vessels in glass that reflect the influence of ancient, Oriental, and avant-garde influences. Brekke won a Creative Glass Center of America fellowship in 1990.
