My American cousin
Article Abstract:
Nineteenth century botanist Asa Gray's discovery of two remarkably similar plant species in the US and Japan led to his theory that North America and Eurasia shared similar flora until the Pleistocene ice ages. Gray's theory was radical for the times but sparked the realization among academics that Japan, the US, and Asia shared a close botanical relationship. Modern botanists continue to discover a large body of plant species which exist both in the East and the West.
