Rooted in the city
Article Abstract:
Urban trees have a unique value in bringing nature into a landscape that often lacks it but they also have unique needs thanks to the pressures that environment places on them. A gardner recounts how she worked to save the seven trees on her urban lot after realizing their value to her family. When the trees developed anthracnose, an arborist explained how construction had created conditions of continuing damage. While the work needed to preserve the trees was strenuous, it was worthwhile in both natural and human terms.
