Tobacco jars
Article Abstract:
Air-tight pottery tobacco jars began to replace humidors and jars with internal presses around 1870, and lasted into the 1920s. Bohemia, Germany, and Wedgwood and imitators in England were main sources. Jars of wood, porcelain, glass and metal are also discussed.

The humble doorporter

Cast iron doorstops were first made in US foundries about 1810, and they were produced in a variety of whimsical shapes in both full-bodied and flat figures. Design is the most important element in dating a doorstop.
