Miniature representations of horse-drawn commercial vehicles are a very popular form of collectible toy. The toys, which were usually made of metal, were marketed between 1800-1930. Collectors especially prize toys made by the German firms Lehmann and Marklin.

Kammer & Reinhardt: dollmakers of verve & variety

The well-crafted and unusual German dolls of the 19th century made by Kammer and Reinhardt are popular among collectors today. One doll recently sold for more than $140,000, but most of these dolls sell in the $3,000 to $10,000 range.

The traditional dolls of Japan, first made around 3,000 B.C., were religious symbols rather than toys. The dolls were made of wood, clay, paper and cloth. Dollmaking became more innovative between 1600 and 1888.
