Warm all over

Article Abstract:

New insulation options make you feel even better about saving energy as some contain a high percentage of recycled material; others come in new formulations that remove or replace ingredients known to be environmentally harmful. The chief measure of insulation performance is R-value, which is derived from standardized tests that determine how well the material resists heat flow, and the current standards in most parts of the US call for at least R-13 exterior walls and R-38 ceilings.

Some such interior and exterior look-alikes are illustrated which include a cast foam that resembles a wood bracket, wood dust and plastic that can be mistaken for porch decking, and recycled tires looking like red-cedar shakes.
