Broyhill promotes 4 senior executives

Broyhill has appointed new positions to its four senior executives: Bud Barger, Doug Brown, Bill Sale and Jerry Brown. The company has named Barger the new vice president of case goods manufacturing, while Brown has been appointed vice president of upholstery manufacturing. Sale has been promoted to vice president of manufacturing systems and Church has been named senior vice president and remains CFO. Barger, who has served as production manager for case goods since 1995, is currently in charge of all wood production, while Brown, who has been production manager for upholstery since 1994, continues to report to the executive vice president of upholstery, Mike Delgatti. Sale is set to handle the development of new manufacturing systems and ensure productivity.

Catalina expands Mexico youth bedroom plant

Catalina Furniture will expand one of its factories in Otay Mesa, Mexico, from 65,000 sq ft to 245,000 sq ft. The planned addition at the Otay Mesa factory, which manufactures youth bedroom, should be finished in 60 days to 90 days, according to Catalina Furniture's CEO, Bob Galle. The planned factory addition was prompted by rapid growth of Catalina Furniture's youth bedroom business. Galle noted that the company's youth bedroom business currently accounts for around 50% of the company's business. Catalina Furniture made $5 million of youth bedroom in Mexico in 1996. In 1998, the company is expecting $20 million worth of youth bedroom shipments.

Aktrin predicts 5.7% increase in Canadian shipments for 1998
Article Abstract:
Total shipments of household furniture and bedding in Canada is forecasted by the Aktrin research company to advance 5.7% in 1998. Aktrin President Stefen Wille declared that shipments should amount to C$2.99 billion in 1998 against C$2.83 billion in 1997. Bedding shipments, which posted a 11.2% increase in 1997 to C$541 million against merely C$484 million in 1996, is forecasted to advance 9.4% to total to C$592 million, while furniture shipments is anticipated to increase moderately at 4.9%.
