C&F beds new Potter license

C&F Enterprises Inc. of Newport News, VA, has secured the licensing agreement for its Beatrix Potter collection in August 1998. The company will feature the new line, including the author of the Peter Rabbit stories, at the October 1998 market in New York. C&F Enterprises' Beatrix Potter Collection, which will depict characters such as Peter Rabbit, Mrs. Tittlemouse and Benjamin Bunny, will include needlepoint and hand-stitched decorative pillows and handmade beddings such as coordinating shams, twin-sized and full-sized quilts, quilted throws, dust ruffles, tabletop sets, window treatments and other accessories.

Crown quiet on baby biz merge

Crown Crafts Inc. of Atlanta, GA, has announced the union of NoJo and Red Calliope of Compton, CA, to form Crown Crafts Infant Products Inc. Crown Crafts refused to comment on the abrupt departure of Nojo founder, Shirley Pepys and the firm's EVP, Renee Pepys Lowe, the older Pepys' daughter. Crown Crafts Infant, the resulting organization from the merger of the two makers of crib beddings, will have Neal Fohrman as the new chairman of the firm's board, while his daughter, Nanci Freeman, will become the firm's president.

CPSC team visits Burlington House Uph

Burlington House Upholstery of Burlington, NC, was visited by a team from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in July 1998 to inspect the firm's fire-retarding campaign. The commission team, which was composed of flammability project chief Dale Ray and three of his staff, inspected Burlington's finishing plant and met with the company's managers to discuss production techniques and processes. Ray refused to divulge details of the inspection as the information was considered proprietary.
