Consumer strategy; Peterson will spearhead new initiative at LifeStyle

LifeStyle Furnishings International (LFI) has named Mike Peterson for the newly-created post of vice president of consumer marketing. Peterson supervised the consumer and brand marketing strategy for LeBarge, an LFI subsidiary, where he was president. At LFI, which is deemed the second-biggest maker of residential furniture in the US, Peterson will be directly responsible to executive vice president Alan Cole. The new position has been described as a marketing breakthrough, which is significant in the long-term. Peterson is tasked to come up with programs concerning relationship marketing, strategic alliances and market research.

Bassett targets consumers with Idea Club

Bassett launches the Bassett Idea Club in an effort to build customer loyalty. The program will give members an idea box and 12 monthly newsletters, which will also include special offers and values. Any customers can become a member of the program through any retailer carrying the brand. The launch of the program was attended by HGTV talk show host and author Chris Madden, who will be making personal appearances at Bassett retail outlets in 1999. The company also plans to come up with a Chris Madden signature furniture collection to be launched in October 1999.

Bassett adds TV studio for training broadcasts

Bassett has announced an investment of just under a million dollars to construct and equip a 1,600-square foot television studio. The furniture retailer will use the studio to air a live, weekly 90-minute sales training program to its 35 Bassett Furniture Direct stores. The retailer has appointed Kathleen Ammermuller to direct the studio's educational program, which will include topics such as the fundamentals of the selling process and how to match Bassett products with customer needs.
