Wanted: 'green' prospects willing to learn
Article Abstract:
Kincaid Home Furnishings is hiring people with no experience in working as furniture sales associates. At Kincaid's first stand-alone store in Latham, NY, owner Jack Nelen prefers to hire waitresses, raising concern from the nearby Dakota's Steak House. Nelen recruits prospective salespeople for Kincaid by eating at diners and restaurants a lot and running 30-second advertising commercials on local television. Hired employees are sent to Kincaid's factory to undergo a training program developed by Nelen himself with the help of Shepherd Management.
