Origins of the Christmas card
Article Abstract:
The first Christmas cards made were one-page leaflets that merchants used to send their customers in 15th-century Europe. With the making of the first Christmas card designed for sale 21 years later, the practice of sending such cards has become widespread. When shipping took a halt during World War I and affected European publishing companies, the American greeting card industry grew.

Out of the pages of history: painted tongue
Article Abstract:
A painted tongue was found pressed in the pages of an old book belonging to the Barnard Family Papers in Jan. 1991. At least 46 years old when found, it was perfectly preserved in every detail. No longer popular with modern gardeners, it thrives in sun and light shade and needs only water when dry.

Digging into history
Article Abstract:
Fort Vancouver's garden is a showcase of old garden concepts. Completely organic, it has been reconstructed to recreate the original garden built in 1827. For this, archives had to be consulted including letters, ships' logs, inventories, invoices and business records from the Hudson's Bay Co.
