Samuel McIntire's notable works and numerous achievements as a merchant were instrumental in transforming Salem, MA, into one of the richest cities in the US, both in terms of cultural heritage and per capita income. McIntire was also a highly respected woodcarver, builder and self-trained designer.

A Newburyport Christmas

The summerhouse in the Glen Magna gardens

Salem architect Samuel McIntire built one of his finest designs for America's first millionaire, Elias Haskett Derby, in 1794. McIntire's design of the summerhouse in the gardens at Glen Magna was based on the neoclassical style of Robert Adam.
