Accounting fix may cut Guilford Mills income
Article Abstract:
Guilford Mills, a fabric supplier, has discovered accounting anomalies at its Hoffman Lace division. The Cobbleskill, NY-based division manufactures lace and home furnishings products such as sheets, comforters as well as window treatments. Guilford may have overstated its expected earnings resulting in 1998 after-tax earnings ending Sep. 27, 1998, to be reduced by $2.9 million to $4.4 million equivalent to between 11 cents and 17 cents per share. The accounting anomalies reportedly relate to 'inappropriate reductions of certain material costs' as well as a 'corresponding understatement of accounts payable' for the division during its fiscal 1998 year.
