Driving for safety cut deaths
Article Abstract:
Although death's on the roads of Britain have fallen as traffic has increased there are still major road safety issues to be addressed, such as drugs, drink, speeding and road rage, according to the 1997 Lex Report. Britain will have to introduce new road safety measures to meet the target of halving car deaths in Europe to less than 25,000 by 2010 and there is a need to increase seat belt use, modify car design, standardise speed limits and reduce the legally accepted levels of alcohol for drivers. The report looked at the cause of road rage and the impact of poor vehicle design on dangerous driving.

Honeywell Ltd. has developed the FF-SE safety scanner which can warn people if they are going too close to dangerous machines or moving equipment. The scanner uses both radar and laser technology and it has a surveillance area of 10 meters and a detection safety area of six meters. An alarm triggers if a presence is detected in the surveillance zone but the machine will not stop until the object is still detected in the safety area. It can detect a presence in under 200 milliseconds. Companies with automatic vehicles or robots will find the scanner useful.

Uk scissor manufacturers gets the edge on safety
Article Abstract:
A quality safety scissor has been developed by Whilliam Whiteley and Sons of Sheffield, a scissor manufacturer. The scissors cut fabric and paper but not skin and have taken many years and investment of over 60,000 to develop. The SAFE-T-GUARD version is designed for industrial use and there is also a design aimed at the education market. The blades feature plastic guards that protrude just above the cutting edges, but do not compromise the scissor's cutting capacity.
