Flexible working leads to insecurity
Article Abstract:
A survey by the National Ass'n of Citizens Advice Bureaux finds employer abuse of flexible hours of work to lead to deterioriating work environments and job insecurity. The British labor market has been marked by the growth of such arrangementsin the mid-1990s. For employers, the advantages are being able to meet fluctuating work demands in the short-term and adapting to organizational change in the longer term but they often use these arrangements to avoid their legal responsibilities to workers.

Any ideas? A survey of suggestion schemes
Article Abstract:
A survey of 40 UK employers on employee suggestion schemes indicates most companies award employees for ideas even if not adopted and that an average of 25% of the 1995 ideas suggested were used. The average 1995 savings was 63,000 pounds sterling, although amounts reported ranged from 10,000 to 1.9 million pounds. Money or gifts are the most common prizes and usually are based on the amount of money saved. Employers says these plans can improve morale.
