The biotech option: the study selection and use of micro-organisms has enabled the biotechnology industry to develop products and technology which can give health and safety benefits
Article Abstract:
The study, selection and use of micro-organisms has allowed the biotechnology industry to develop products and technology with health and safety benefits. These include diagnostic tools for medicine and in the food sector, and low tech biotechnology systems such as non-polluting biological control agents as alternatives to chemical pesticides, and the use of nematodes for insect control. There are also effective systems for water purification and products for use in industrial and commercial cleaning. Biotechnology products are usually more health and safety friendly than chemical products, and need certain conditions to function effectively.
