Navajo Chief Blankets
Article Abstract:
American craft designers pictured Navajo textiles draped over low partitions or hung on the walls of bungalows, log cabins, and mountain camps, which signified respect for dying native culture and also for skillful handcraftsmanship. The large superimposed diamonds and toothed zigzags of Eye-Dazzler blankets are attributed to the influence of Mexican and New Mexican blankets seen during Navajo confinement at the Bosque Redondo by the United States Government from 1864 to 1868.
