Riga: The art nouveau metropolis
Article Abstract:
Riga, the capital of Latvia, where 40% of the buildings with 800 year history of architecture is an Art Nouveau city and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It was founded in 1201 by a German bishop, became an important Baltic trading center and prospered in trade and due to sudden economic and population growth there was a need for more housing, a time when fresh Arts and Crafts ideas were sweeping through Europe.

Tapio Wirkkala: Merging form and function
Article Abstract:
Tapio Wirkkala, a foremost modern Finnish designer who graduated from Central School of Arts and Crafts in Helsinki created designs in glass, ceramics, wood and textiles and involved himself in the entire process from concept, sketch to technique and production. He merged rural simplicity with urban elegance and produced objects that are timeless and his work is displayed in various museums all over the world.

Art Nouveau in Finland
Article Abstract:
Two travel experts who traveled to Helsinki to search out Art Nouveau architecture present exclusive pictures of the uniquely Finnish style, some designed by early modernist Eliel Saarinen. The motifs inside the Pohjola Insurance Building are clearly Finnish, but the style shows the influence of the sinuous lines of French Art Nouveau.
