Companies look to stem agent turnover

Some life insurance companies are trying to reduce employee turnover by improving their screening, training and tracking of agents. Prudential Insurance Company of America arranges procedures so that agents can concentrate on sales. Prudential also has increased pension benefits. Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. emphasizes screening and training and tracks retention rates. The number of career agents was 219,000 in 1993, a drop of 27,000 from 1986, according to Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association.
