Euro: a four-letter word for expensive
Article Abstract:
The impending European Monetary Union promises to bring a host of benefits to insurers. The single currency market will bring more investment opportunities and new markets to insurers. It promises to limit currency risks and eliminate financial losses or violation of trade regulations in managing international policies involving many currencies. It will also eliminate transfer costs arising from the shift in currencies for premiums, claims payments and investments. Another direct benefit of the common currency is its positive impact on direct marketing, as the region's insurers can offer a product at the same rate.

The insurance market opens wider in Poland
Article Abstract:
The Polish insurance sector continues to develop and plans to launch new products. Lack of experience and mismanagement have forced many companies to file for bankruptcy. At present, 29 general insurance and 12 life insurance companies operate in Poland, but the main insurance product is a basic vehicle coverage. Foreign companies with plans to operate in Poland need to acquire licensed companies, apply for a license to the Ministry of Finance or choose to wait until 1999 to enter a more favorable insurance market.
