Opportunities expanding in 24-hour care programs
Article Abstract:
The desire of employers to curb rising workers' compensation costs and make group health insurance as cost-effective as possible is sparking increasing interest in 24-hour health care plans. Insurance brokers are tapping this demand by fulfilling a consultative role in helping companies design their 24-hour plans. The broker should provide the following elements when designing a 24-hour care plan: centralized case management, direct contracting for group health and workers' compensation, an integrated database, employee education and a system for monitoring claims.

The bundling option grew out of the Colorado Auto Accident Reparations Act, which was intended to help curb civil suits.

Courts are looking at the issue in a more sophisticated way than simply siding with either policyholders or carriers or charting a middle ground by making finer distinctions with specific fears and diseases. Undetectable illnesses, such as psychological ailments, are sometimes to suggest opportunities for abuse and fraud.
