Article Abstract:
A growing number of companies are restructuring their compensation programs in order to meet changing strategic objectives. Such changes will affect the reward and recognition system of a company. Developing a new contract with employees necessitates a clearly defined compensation strategy which would reflect an organization's needs and objectives. Development of a strategic approach to compensation will be an important organizational focus for the 1990s.

The transformation to a team-oriented business scenario is happening all over America. There have been several traditional changes in the business structure which form part of the total quality management movement and the unyielding intent to create a more competitive US business in the world market. Thus, individually-patterned reward and incentive schemes must be analyzed. Companies should restructure and adapt these team-based organizational programs.

Business organizations have to adapt their pay and pricing programs to meet economic, competitive and demographic changes in the market. Businesses need to reassess their valuation of a worker's contribution to corporate strategies. They should also create new incentives for the promotion of company goals while upgrading compensation standards against business competition.
