Afghanistan: Out of the globalization mainstream?
Article Abstract:
Afghanistan ranks low on all three indicators of political capacity being extractive capability, institutional credibility, and transparency. Globalization is a multifaceted process and in its ability to compete in the global economy, Afghanistan is beginning the contest in arrears with little political capacity and experience in capitalist, where market-based economics and two global wars are intersecting in the country, those of narcotics and terrorism.

Coalition economic policies in Iraq: Motivations and outcomes
Article Abstract:
The Coalition Provision Authority's abrupt liberalisation of prices and markets aimed to improve efficiency in the allocation of resources and to expand output, yet resultant joblessness has promoted insecurity, which, in turn, has reduced Iraq's already low capacity to absorb investments, essential for transition. People-centered approaches, structured around a guaranteed public employment scheme, offer an alternate economic path.
