Alternative grand strategies and intelligence implications
Article Abstract:
The restructuring of US intelligence services is needed to meet the challenges of post-cold war strategic demands. The Senate's Intelligence Committee has an important role to play in guiding the activities of the US intelligence community, including approving the appointment of CIA director John Deutch. The intelligence community must be restructured to eliminate duplication of efforts and to address changed intelligence needs globally. An Inspector General's office should be established for independent oversight, and the budgets of intelligence services should be made public.
