China, Japan and the scramble for Siberia
Article Abstract:
Russia's profile in the region would rise significantly with the tapping of Siberia's massive energy wealth, both oil and natural gas and the final orientation of the associated energy transport infrastructure, either towards China or Japan might play a decisive role in the evolving balance of power in East Asia. A trilateral Russia-Japan-US summit devoted exclusively to the issue of tangible progress of the Northern Territories can profoundly influence the vital and still undecided problem of the Siberian pipeline's final route.

The road not taken: International aid's choice of Copenhagen over Beijing
Article Abstract:
A brief description on a writer's experience to consider why Copenhagen led to Poverty Reduction Strategies and the first Millennium Development Goal, whereas Beijing has become largely invisible in the mainstream world of aid is presented. The powerful influence of economic rational choice theory associated with bureaucratic modes of thought, which has meant that the central debate in development policy has remained that of growth versus quality is argued.
