Defence planning: what are forces for, and how much is enough?
Article Abstract:
Debates in Washington currently center on the supposed decline in the US' military capability. However, it is argued that these debates merely exaggerate the outcome of the restructuring of US forces. Two books on the subject are also analyzed, namely, 'Future Visions for US Defense Policy: Four Alternatives Presented as Presidential Speeches' and 'How to be a Cheap Hawk: The 1999 and 2000 Defense Budgets' by Michael O'Hanlon.
