Reforming Russia for pleasure and profit?
Article Abstract:
The economic and social repercussions of reform in Russia have been very severe, and there are still no signs of these repercussions coming to an end. However, the West has shown strong interest in becoming involved in the transformation of Russia into a stable, wealthy country. In many cases, the West has supported leaders and cliques, rather than institutions and principles. It must be recognized that local economic and institutional conditions placed severe limitations on choices made in Russia and towards Russia.

Reforming China
Article Abstract:
China is significant in any 21st century calculation of global security and its growing weight on the international stage has become a central focus for many foreign policy-makers and analysts. However an adequate understanding of the domestic political economy of China is missing from all the speculation. It is likely that China will become an effective, responsible and committed participant in international affairs.
