Alliance formation and conflict initiation: The missing link
Article Abstract:
A fresh look is taken at the nature of the relationship between alliance formation and conflict initiation as existing research on the subject brings up complicated and various answers due to the misspecification of the relationship. An attempt is made to link alliances and conflicts based on the case that the decision to fight and the decision to ally arise from the same causal factors.

Dispute initiation and alliance obligations in regional economic institutions
Article Abstract:
Multilateral trade agreements are more and more incorporated with alliance obligations, as is the case with regional economic institutions (REIs) that are seen to function as institutional deterrents to aggression. The influence of REIs on dispute initiation is examined and it is observed that among African states such commitments do reduce dispute initiation.
