Human rights and multinationals: is there a problem?
Article Abstract:
This article examines the role of multinational entreprises (MNEs) in human rights violations, and methods which individuals and pressure groups use to combat these violations. The author asserts that the context of human rights has changed, with MNEs assuming more responsibility for the social aspects of their actions; the legal means of bringing human rights violations to attention are considered, and the fact that states are ultimately responsible for human rights are highlighted.

Seizing the future: the South, sustainable development and international trade

This article evaluates the effects of the World Trade Organization's failure at the Seattle Summit in 1999 to reach a mandate for international trade, focusing on its impact on sustainable development and the North-South division. The uneasy relations between developing countries and industrialized ones is considered, highlighting the idea that the South needs to emphasize sustainable development over free trade.

After Seattle: free trade and the WTO

This article examines the aftermath of the protests against the World Trade Organization's 1999 Seattle Summit, suggesting that critics of the WTO were ill-prepared and ill-informed about their fears of free trade, and that the WTO functioning needs to be reconsidered.
