New institutions for transatlantic trade?
Article Abstract:
The European Union and the US engaged in trade meetings that led to the proposal of forming a transatlantic free trade area supposedly for the benefit of world trade, in compliance with certain articles stated in the World Trade Organization. Apparently, the proposal was modified into a new transatlantic marketplace (NTM), but was later vetoed by France. By Sept 1998, the European Commission drew a proposal called the 'draft action plan for transatlantic economic partnership'. This plan is not expected to be different from the NTM, except for some minor changes.
