Russian democracy and the West after Chechnya
Article Abstract:
The stability of Russian democracy is being endangered by the Chechen crisis because it highlights Russia's vulnerability to internal strifes and the weakness of its security policy. Russia is gradually reverting to quasi-authoritarian rule to impose its ineffective policies after it has failed to form effective government structures. The West, particularly the United States must re-examine its position regarding the Russian Federation and its beleaguered states to prevent it from sliding back to its Soviet form of government.
