Setting sail toward a more effective missile defense strategy
Article Abstract:
A sea-based missile defense program is a better alternative to a ground-based system because of its effectiveness, flexibility and capacity to comply with the conditions of 1972 ABM Treaty. The US Navy's missile defense program is centered on its Aegis fleet which already has more than 5,000 vertical launch cells deployed throughout the world. The Aegis ship-based interceptors can easily be transported to any place which can reached through international waters. Sea-based missile systems can also protect ports, airfields and counter the use of ballistic missiles in beachhead attacks by US Marines.

A Congressional perspective on ballistic missile defense
Article Abstract:
The US has spent over $50 billion on ballistic missile defense systems but it has not yet implemented the strategic defense system and nuclear weapons have not become obsolete as once predicted. The Strategic Defense Initiative was based on the premise that nuclear weapons would become obsolete but this has not happened. The Persian Gulf War has shown that ballistic missile defense is both viable and necessary. While ballistic missile defense systems are important, they should be realized within a matrix of arms control treaties.

Will NATO deploy european missile defenses?
Article Abstract:
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is considering European missile defenses for the protection of its workers in North Africa and the Middle East. NATO may work with Russia to set up a global missile defense system or it may build a NATO defense system for Europe. Systems such as the US Theater High Altitude Area Defense are included in the NATO missile defence review program.
