Article Abstract:
The mobilization of a unique ideology, pre-existing factors of poor socio-economic conditions, state failure and a large cadre of disaffected young males when combined with the fuel of external support, which led to rise and spread of Taliban are analyzed. The dangers of the large cadres of disaffected males throughout the Muslim world are identified and the need to provide improved socio-economic, educational and community-network alternatives to the madrasas are emphasized.
