ALEC's charge down regulatory road
Article Abstract:
The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a non-profit organization, has introduced the draft legislation to interpolate competition into the $208 bil American electricity monopoly. The organization encourages market principles by dialogues between state legislators and members of the private sector. However, ALEC supports an approach to electricity deregulation that require utilities to use competitors' power in providing electricity to homes and businesses at regulated rates.

What a power-full world this could be
Article Abstract:
Observers believe that with carefully planned deregulation of the electricity sector, consumers are ensured of better service and lower power prices. However, if the government follows the same mistake made in the telephone industry deregulation, then all efforts to refine the system and introduce innovations will fail. At the most, observers add, utility regulation should have been done decades before allowing competition to harness the necessary reform.
