Serving two masters may jeopardize client interests; although not all conflicts of interest are harmful, a client may be impaired by an industry lawyer's other relationships
Article Abstract:
Rule 310(B) of the Rules of Professional Conduct deals with indirect conflicts of interest, the most frequent kind of conflict in the entertainment industry. Lawyers with indirect conflicts who wish to continue representing a client must make written disclosure, but it is hard to imagine how such disclosure will protect clients who believe the lawyer's connections can be helpful. The rule does not offer enough protection for entertainment industry clients and should be changed.

Although storm clouds threatened throughout the global warming conference in Kyoto, the conferees reached an agreement on greenhouse gas emissions
Article Abstract:
The Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change would, if ratified, set internationally recognized limits in greenhouse gas emissions binding on the world's developed countries, including the US, the largest source of such emissions. The Convention on Climate Change entered into force in 1994 and the Kyoto Protocol proposes an extension. Of great significance were the market mechanisms, including emissions trading, to achieve national objectives.
