Case management system choice: practicality rules; this form of software , which tracks cases and matters, comes in many different formats; selection takes careful research
Article Abstract:
Acquisition of appropriate and reliable case management system (CMS) software is a critical decision for most law firms. If the right CMS is chosen, the firm's efficiency, client relations and profits can be greatly enhanced. A law firm's decision to acquire a given CMS should be driven primarily by practical considerations. Firms are well-advised to purchase a CMS from an established vendor rather than try to develop a system in-house. Implementation of a CMS should be viewed as an ongoing process in which functionality is enhanced gradually, as new capabilities are required.

Connecting to clients gets easier; firms can benefit from networking technology
Article Abstract:
Law firms are becoming interested in evolving networking technology as a cost-effective means of communicating with other firms and of gaining a competitive edge when competing for clients. Combining the transmission of data and voice communications over high-speed telephone lines is the most cost-effective. These high-speed lines also enable firms to interconnect fax machines, accounting systems and local area networks into a wide area network. Voice mail, e-mail and video-conferencing are other examples of enhanced connectivity.

Bar-coding technology comes to law offices
Article Abstract:
Bar coding can help law offices manage records, libraries, litigation support, assets and mail. Bar coding is a reliable method of tracking resources and helps cut administrative costs and exposure to liability. Start-up costs can be high, but the expense is probably justified for firms which can use the technology for several purposes.
