Debunking the religious right of animal sacrifice
Article Abstract:
The constitutional principles of state police power to enact laws protecting public health and that of freedom of religion do not conflict in the animal sacrifice case of Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye Inc v Hialeah. This is because the Supreme Court has ruled that police power can legitimately apply to religious acts. The government thus has the power to legislate about certain religious acts while permitting those reflective of a generally accepted social norm.

Defense of juveniles: a rising need; defendants in juvenile court proceedings require dedicated counsel to protect them from long sentences, time in adult prisons
Article Abstract:
Pro bono legal representation of juveniles is increasingly important given the overcrowded conditions of many facilities. Defense counsel can help ensure nonviolent youth are not torn away from their communities, improperly placed in adult facilities, or end up receiving unduly long sentences. Volunteer attorneys can reduce the burden on public defenders, push for statutory reforms, and provide effective and adequate counsel for juvenile offenders.
