Article Abstract:

Three entry level digital cameras are evaluated and compared. The Canon PowerShot A5, Fuji MX-500 and Olympus America D-340L are all priced around $400 and have similar features. These include a built-in flash, Optical and LCD viewfinders, removable media for storing images, video ports for connecting to a TV, VCR or video camera, PC and Macintosh support, exposure compensation, a serial connection for sending the images to a computer, Twain compliance, a digital telephoto mode, and an auto-focus lens with digital macro capabilities. The Olympus D-340L is the best choice and offers the quickest recycle and delay times as well as good image quality.
